MS Project, the project management
software program by Microsoft, is a very handy tool for project manager that
helps him develop a schedule, assign resources to tasks, track the progress,
manage the budget, and analyze workloads for an ongoing project.
Scheduling is the science of
using mathematical calculations and logic to generate time-effective sequence
of task considering any resource and cost constraints. Schedule is part of the
Plan. In Project Management Methodology, schedule would only mean listing of a
project's milestones, tasks/activities, and deliverables, with start and finish
dates. Of course the schedule is linked with resources, budgets and
dependencies.
MS Project can help you:
Visualize project plan in
standard defined formats.
Schedule tasks and resources
consistently and effectively.
Track information about the
work, duration, and resource requirements for a project.
Generate reports to share in
progress meetings.
Introduction
to MS-PROJECT:
MS-Project has wide facility to use Wide-Variety of CURRENCY use. So to use this product you have to set MS-PROJECT to your
local currency. GO to Control Panel>Region & Language>Additional
Setting>Currency Tab.( I have set it to TK-currency of Bangladesh )
View Bar
– This bar contains
the most effective tools of MS-PROJECT such as Calender,GANTT-chart ,Network
Diagram,Track Usage,tracking GANTT,Resource Sheet ,Resource Graph,Resource
Usages and many more tools.If this bar is hidden from window just mouse click
on Tool bar > Customize>Option>Reset Manu & Toolbar.
Indent/Outdent
–
Indent is used to take any task under other task or to make group.Outdent is
used to ungroup any task from another.
Assign
Resource : Showing Two face
radio button is used to assign any resource to any task.
Assign
Unit bar – This bar contain %
work complete tools such as 0%25%,50%, 75%, 100% and update task tools.
PERT-Analysis
bar –
This bar contain Performance Evaluation Review Technique (PERT) entry sheet,
PERT entry form, set PERT weight ,Calculate PERT, pessimistic GNATT ,Optimistic
GNATT ,Expected GNATT.
L/UL/Split
Task/HL radio button – These four button is used to link/Unlink between
selected task respectively.Split task button is used to make break/split a
task. Hyperlink button is used to assign a text to HTML reference.
Edit
Bar-This
bar contains New,Open ,Save ,File search ,Print ,Print Preview,Spelling
Check,Cutt cell ,Copy Cell,Paste ,Format Painter from left side.
Task
Bar –
This includes Show Progress Mark ,Page break ,Link Label,Straight Link,Hide
field ,Layout Now,Layout Selection tools from left side.
Task
ID &Task Name- Task name is a column where you can input different task
sequencially according to activity of project planning. Task ID column includes
number of corresponding activity.WBS-code is defined by task activity & Task ID.
Task/Resource/Track/Report
–By
selecting each button you will get your required command as drop-down menu.
